FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Brendan Samano spent Tuesday afternoon outside, playing with his brothers and sister.
Up until a few days ago, the 7th grader says he was having trouble getting out of bed. “My nose, it burns when I breath out of it,” he says.
The Monnig Middle School student says he was beat up on the bus early last week.
It was on his way to his Fort Worth home when he says another student started throwing food at him. When Samano moved to another seat, he says he was attacked. “He hit me on my face and that’s when I couldn’t do nothing, because all of his friends were around him and stuff,” explains Samano. “The bus driver didn’t say anything. She saw me but didn’t say anything.”
Samano says when the bus pulled over at the next stop he got out, even though it was three blocks from his house.
His mother found out about what had happened when she got home from work. She says her 13-year-old had a bloody nose, black eye and his front teeth were almost knocked out.
Barbara Tovar Moreno says she even had to take him to the emergency room because he was in so much pain.
“When somebody is assaulted and becomes a victim and there is no apology or resolution that is not okay,” said the mother.
One week later, the family says they still have no answers. The mother and son went to talk to a district official Tuesday afternoon.
Tovar Moreno wants to know why the bus driver didn’t do anything, and if the student responsible has been disciplined.
“Nobody has bothered to contact myself at this point. There has been no resolution. My son has been out of school for a week. He’s afraid to go back,” says Tovar Moreno.
A spokesperson with Forth Worth ISD says they are looking into what happened, but at this point the law doesn’t allow them to talk about the incident.
The family was told the incident was captured on video from the camera on the bus. They have not seen the video.
Fort Worth police say they are also looking into what happened.
